Sitting around a backyard fire pit on a chilly winter night can really help keep the winter blues away. We're going to show you how to make your very own designer fire pit using a recycled washing machine and some salvaged legs. It's a simple but unique way to create an outdoor fire.
Materials:Recycled cleaned washing machine drumRecycled metal table legs or plant hangers Nuts and bolts
Tools:Drill and bitRatchet set with long driver
Directions:
1. Recycle your old washing machine! Once you have it taken apart (many websites tell you how), wash the drum and remove anything that is not metal. Sometimes the drum will have a plastic ring around the neck filled with sand for balance and this has to be removed too. 2. Put the drum into the ground in about a 5" deep whole, on top of some blocks or stones or you can add some metal legs. 3. We chose legs. Use the pre-existing holes in the drum to attach the legs. You may need to drill out the holes a bit bigger and then attach legs with bolts and nuts. 4. Your legs could be anything from claw foot bathtub legs to cast patio furniture legs, but make sure whatever you choose is sturdy. Four legs instead of three are always better. 5. Now you are ready to build a fire inside which you will see is very practical with the way that the drum is shaped inside. Special Thanks:
