Shell Mobile

We've all walked along a beach stooping over every few feet to find the latest shell for our collection. Here is one way to use these wonderful seaside finds to make a very special mobile.

Materials:

Variety of shells
Driftwood
1" thick piece of foam
Twine
Masking tape

Tools:

Rotary tool with 1/8" drill bit
Scissor
Large needle

Directions:

1. After collecting and cleaning shells, lay out driftwood, shells and other beach found objects in lines to determine pattern.

2. Place shell on soft surface, such as a 1" thick piece of foam, and tape area to be drilled. Masking tape will help shell from cracking.

3. Using rotary tool and 1/8" bit, drill hole through each shell and other beach found objects.

4. Make a knot at end of twine and slip twine through hole in shell. Continue placing knots where shells should fall in pattern and repeat process until a completed strand of shells is formed.

5. Drill five holes at equal lengths into driftwood. Push excess twine from strand of shells through center three holes and tie knots to hold.

6. Cut a long length of twine and put through two remaining holes. Tie knots to hold.

7. Hang from long twine in a window or outdoor area.
